The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Sunday Abidoye, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel in Sagamu on Wednesday.
The Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to Odutola, the hotel’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), identified only as Oluwole, reported the incident to the police after discovering the deceased.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives visited the scene and found the body of the deceased already placed in a car outside the hotel, being prepared for transport to the morgue by his family,” she said.
The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos State, told the police that Abidoye had returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday.
“He mentioned that he tried calling him on Monday, but after getting no response, he went to the hotel.
Upon knocking on the door multiple times without an answer, he requested a spare key from the hotel manager.
When they opened the room, they discovered his brother’s lifeless body,” Odutola explained.
Various drugs and traditional medicines were reportedly recovered from the room, and the bed was found soaked with an unidentified liquid substance.
A friend of the deceased, identified as Ogunmonti Ogunwole, revealed that he had accompanied Abidoye to purchase nine different medications the day before, following the deceased’s complaints of illness.
The remains of the deceased have been evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.
Odutola confirmed that no cause of death has been established yet.
She added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation.
The police spokesperson advised the public against self-medication, emphasizing the importance of seeking professional medical guidance for illnesses.
