An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday sentenced a man, Abiodun Akintunde, to 18 months imprisonment for obtaining N860, 000 under false pretences.

The accused, 36, whose address is unknown, had pleaded guilty to the three count charge of breach of peace, obtaining money under false pretences and threat to life.

The Magistrate, Mr B.A. Sonuga, said the prosecutor had proved his case beyond reasonable doubts.

“The accused was found guilty and convicted on the three-count charge.
.
“You are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment on each count (18 months imprisonment) for the offences.’’

Sonuga said the sentence was without an option of fine, adding that the sentence would commence from the day of arraignment.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Bosede Adegeshin, told the court that Akintunde impersonated a staff of Airtel Nigeria to commit the offences.

“The accused collected N860, 000 from four people that he will erect a mast in the area.
.
“He obtained the money on Feb. 20 from Mrs Ronke Ilesanmi, Mrs Raliat Mobolowore, Mrs Charity Akinlabi, and Mr Adeniyi Munirua, all from Ikorodu. Community.

She said the offences contravened Sections 56, 166 (d) and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
