A 27-year-old man, identified as Saturday Aigbedion, has been remanded in prison for allegedly having a carnal knowledge of one Chikere Okereke.
The accused was remanded by an Oredo Magistrate Court in Benin City after he was arraigned on a one-count charge of unnatural offences.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr Mike Osayi, said that Aigbedion committed an offence against morality saying: “If the accused is remanded in prison custody for long, he is going to mix up with same s*x and likely commit the same offence”.
Saturday, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor, Sylvester Omor, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Erie Street, Off Sakponba Road, Benin, last December.
“The accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of Mr Okereke through the anus against the order of nature”, Omor said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 214 (1) of the Criminal Code.
The presiding magistrate said bail would be considered in the next adjournment date.
If convicted, Saturday is liable to 14 years behind bars.
