Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti appears to have rubbished claims that Fabio Coentrao will join Manchester United before the end of the month by emphasising the defender’s importance to the team.
.
The Portuguese international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last few weeks as David Moyes is keen on adding another left-back to his ranks.
.
Manchester United came close to landing Coentrao in the summer but were denied the chance of landing the defender during the final stages of the transfer window due to paperwork implications.
.
Reports had suggested that Manchester United were going to sign Coentrao on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy the 25-year-old in the summer.
.
However Ancelotti rebuffed speculation linking Coentrao with a Santiago Bernabeu exit after Real Madrid’s 2-0 win against Osasuna.
.
Ancelotti told ESPN: “He played very well offensively and defensively.
.
“He is really focused and is important for us. He did not make mistakes after a long time without playing.
.
We have to value how he played.”
.
Coentrao, who was making his first Real Madrid appearance since the beginning of November, was sent off in the 85th minute after picking up two yellow cards.
