Manchester United and Arsenal have been dealt a blow by Real Madrid assistant manage Paul Clement today, after he revealed in an interview with talkSPORT that no players would be leaving the club.
.
United and Arsenal have been linked with Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Morata respectively, but Clement has moved to confirm rumours that Carlo Ancelotti is unwilling to do business this month.
.
When asked whether or not the Madrid duo would be allowed to depart the Bernabeu in any capacity this transfer window, Clement responded by suggesting that due to Los Blancos’ thin squad, moves that would see players exiting were unlikely.
.
“I don’t think so at this point”.
.
“Alvaro is going to attract interest because he is a very talented young player, he’ll be very sought- after.
.
“But we have a small squad here, we’re working with 20 outfield players and we currently have two players out with injury, so that leaves us with 18.
.
“These are the players that I’m pretty sure we will work with for the rest of the season.
.
“I don’t see any movement in this window at all from us. We’ve very happy with the players we’ve got and in the majority of cases the players are happy at the club and want to help us be successful this year in every competition.”
.
It was reported earlier on today that Coentrao Madrid had agreed terms with United concerning a loan deal until the end of the season , but now Clements’ comments may have thrown the validity of those claims into doubt.
.
Regardless, both United and Arsenal will no doubt be preparing alternative options in case the Spanish giants do hold fast on their stance and refuse any advances.
