Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic has declared that he is not interested in joining either Manchester United or Liverpool either in January or at the end of the season, pledging his future to the La Liga side and welcoming reports that the offer of a new contract is imminent.
.
Rakitic has been consistently linked with the Premier League duo thanks to a strong start to the season in Seville, providing the kind of assured, dynamic presence in central midfield that would be more than welcome at either Old Trafford or Anfield.
.
The 25-year-old is thought to have a €40m release clause in his current Sevilla contract, but the Croatian international remains adamant that he is happy in southern Spain and will consider any offer of fresh terms, with his present deal expiring at the end of next season.
.
He is quoted by Sky Sports as telling Spotix: “People know I’m happy in Sevilla, I’m really not under any pressure, my team-mates and all coaches see that I give my all on the pitch.
.
“I’m enjoying football here, I really love life in this city, so it is a great honour that there are signs of a new contract and that the board is really ready to sign me for an even longer period. We’ll see what uhappens.”
.
Sevilla look likely to wait until this summer before making a decision over the midfielder’s long-term future, with their ability to finance a bumper deal dependent on qualification for the Champions League.
.
United are believed to be weighing up the possibility of signing a raft of new players this summer, while Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is on record as stating that he would like to add quality before the transfer window closes.
