Jose Mourinho has questioned why Anthony Martial has not returned to the United States after the birth of his baby.
He missed the games against AC Milan and Liverpool but Mourinho has demanded to know why the 22-year-old, who wants to leave the club this summer, has not returned.
“He has the baby and after the baby is born, beautiful baby, full of health, thank god,” Mourinho told MUTV.
“He should be here and he is not here. Now we have Real Madrid and after that we have Bayern Munich, and that is our start.”
Mourinho is already missing Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot and Nemanja Matic through injury, while Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo are not with the squad in the United States while they take time off following the World Cup.
Mourinho revealed Jones and Rashford have agreed to cut short their breaks to “help the team” and challenged others to do the same.
He added: “I just hope the boys on deserved holidays, they take care of themselves a little bit and somebody wants to do what Rashford and Jones do, which is to be back a little bit earlier to try and help the team because for the beginning of the season we are going to be in trouble.”
Valencia was one of those in the U.S. before being sent home last week nursing a calf injury. Mourinho, though, appeared to criticise the right-back for returning to training out of shape.
“Antonio Valencia comes from holiday, I think too much holiday for him. His condition was not good when he was back,” he said.
