The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has debunked a viral social media report claiming he stated that security operations in Zamfara State “would not work without him.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, Matawalle described the publication as untrue and misleading, emphasising that he never made such a remark.
He clarified that although he has in the past voiced concerns over the security situation in Zamfara, he did not grant any interview or hold any conversation suggesting that ongoing military or security missions depend on his personal participation.

The minister said the report distorted his position and had the potential to stir avoidable tension.
Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara State, explained that his previous comments centered on the importance of synergy between federal authorities, state governments and security agencies to deliver sustainable victories against banditry.
He reiterated that broad stakeholder cooperation remains essential in combating rising insecurity.
He also cautioned against careless communication on security issues, noting that inaccurate publications could undermine government operations, create public confusion or weaken strategic interventions.
The minister urged media organisations to prioritise verification before publication, stressing that national security reporting must meet the standards of accuracy, fairness and restraint.
Matawalle further reaffirmed his solidarity with the Federal Government’s ongoing security strategies in Zamfara and other troubled states, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on strengthening national peace and security architecture.
