Abuja (Federal Ministry of Information Press Report) – The Minister of State II for Foreign Affairs and Supervising Minister of Information, Nurudeen Mohammed (Dr) has charged the Nigerian Media to be sensitive in their reportage by cross checking facts before publication to avoid disharmony in the polity.
The Minister made the call during his maiden briefing meeting with top management staff of the Ministry at the Radio House, Abuja recently. He noted that with the forth-coming 2015 elections, the Press as stakeholders in governance must ensure that reports on debates are not based on individuals and personalities, but objective based on issues.
Nurudeen Mohammed enjoined Nigerians to jealously guide the image of the country and promote harmony among one another by taking advantage of the cultural diversity of the country which is the largest black African nation in the world. He solicited the support of the management and staff of the Ministry in the onerous task ahead, assuring them of his determination to lead the Ministry from the stop point of his predecessor. He also promised to do everything within his capacity to improve on the funding situation in the Ministry.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Folasade Yemi Esan (Dr) expressed the difficulty of the Ministry in performing its most basic functions due to gross under-funding. She also informed them about the urgent need for a befitting corporate headquarters, saying the lack of this has resulted to acute shortage of space for most of the Departments of the Ministry.
