The Minister of Defence for Nigeria, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has expressed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to bolstering its collaboration with France to address security challenges.
During a meeting with members of the French Parliament and the Defence Commission, led by Gassilloud Thomas at the Ship House in Abuja, Minister Abubakar emphasized the significance of the Nigeria-France relationship in combating terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities in the country.
Highlighting the existing ties between the two nations, the Minister stressed the need for further strengthening in areas such as military equipment provision, training, and overall cooperation.

Since assuming office as the Honourable Minister of Defence, Abubakar noted that he has engaged with France on three occasions regarding military cooperation, underscoring the positive rapport between both countries.
Addressing the potential for collaboration, Abubakar stated, “I believe the French Government can support Nigeria with equipment to fight insecurity and insurgency.
You are aware Nigeria has a huge population with great economic potential, and this can help the economies to stabilize.”
He also praised the relationship between the French Parliament and its Nigerian counterpart, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation to bolster security efforts.
In response, Mr. Gassiloud Thomas, the head of the French Parliament delegation, lauded Minister Abubakar for his proactive approach in addressing security challenges in Nigeria.
Thomas expressed the delegation’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling insecurity, acknowledging Nigeria’s significant role in regional security efforts and its efficient military.
The meeting signifies a mutual interest in strengthening the Nigeria-France partnership to address the pressing security concerns in the region.
