The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to ensure that all embassies in Nigeria are provided with a conducive environment to carry out their duties effectively.
Wike made this commitment during a courtesy visit by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Shri Balasubramanian, in Abuja on Tuesday.
He highlighted the significant presence of Indian companies in Nigeria, particularly in petrochemicals and fertilizers, among other sectors.

“We would also like to have this kind of relationship in Abuja. You have seen the improvement in security; you have seen improvement in infrastructure in Abuja.
That is part of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of President Bola Tinubu. We will discuss other areas that will be of mutual interest between India and Nigeria, and Abuja in particular,” he stated.
The minister further called for substantial investments from Indian investors to expedite the development of the capital territory, Abuja.
In his remarks, Balasubramanian highlighted the longstanding and excellent relationship between India and Nigeria.
He noted that India initiated its diplomatic ties with Nigeria two years before the country gained independence in 1958, establishing a diplomatic office in Lagos.
The Ambassador highlighted the presence of over 155 Indian companies in Nigeria, with investments exceeding $27 billion in various manufacturing sectors, including plastics, steel, oil, and pharmaceuticals, among others.
He emphasized that Indian companies are the second-largest employer of labor after the Nigerian government.
Balasubramanian expressed satisfaction with the facilities extended to the Indian Embassy and reiterated India’s commitment to fostering the relationship with Nigeria.
