(Report from Ministry of Youth Development, Abuja)- The Minister of Youth Development and former Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Boni Haruna has expressed commendation for the Nigerian Military for liberating Michika from Boko Haram insurgents. Michika is the home town of the Minister, which was taken over by the insurgents on the 8th of September, 2014.
The Minister lauded the patriotic gallantry of our soldiers by the successful and historic military operation leading to the liberation of the area. This, he adjudged is an eloquent testimony of the bravery and professional competence of our soldiers.
Mr. Haruna commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the bold initiative in setting up the Presidential Victims Support Fund (PVSF ), and his assurance to rebuild all the towns, villages and businesses destroyed by the insurgents. He therefore, called on the PVSF Committee to start the process of identifying and assessing all the properties and businesses that have been destroyed in the recovered areas of the State with a view to assisting the victims to return and fully settle down.
The Minister also wanted the PVSF Committee to put in place a mechanism to ensure that victims are not short changed in the disbursement of any assistance meant for them by the Fund, like what happened during the 2012 flood disaster in the State, where the flood victims were allegedly sidelined.
In the same vein, the Minister condemned those that have tried to make political capital out of the unfortunate situation of the people, by wickedly insinuating the culpability of the Federal Government in promoting the insurgency. He expressed the belief that those making such insinuations have been put to shame by the successful military operations leading to the liberation of Gombi, Hong, Maiha, Mubi, Michika and very soon Madagali.
Mr. Haruna said that as a victim of the insurgency who has lost homes and loved ones, he considers as unthinkable, absurd and most illogical for anybody to insinuate that the Government in which he is currently serving, will promote terrorism.
