Jose Mourinho made the “wrong” move when he chose to sign on for a second tour as Chelsea manager, Sir Alex Ferguson says.
After managing the Blues from 2004-2007, Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge in 2013 and won the Premier League title. But the honeymoon didn’t last and he was sacked last December following a poor start.
But he’s found a new home with Man United, where Ferguson became a legend over 26 years in charge at Old Trafford.
At a charity event shown by Sky Sports, Ferguson backed his friend Mourinho to succeed with his new club but also criticised his decision to return to Cheslea.
“I thought Jose was wrong to go back to Chelsea, I really do,” Ferguson said. “I think it’s always difficult going back to somewhere for a second time.
“The ability, charisma and personality, his success is high, won a European Cup twice with different clubs, won a Europa [League] with Porto, winning titles with all the teams he’s managed. His record — you can’t ignore that.
“I think Manchester United is the right kind of club for him, I really do. I think we’ll do well.”
