President Muhammadu Buhari has again failed to show up at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
The meeting, which holds every Wednesday, is being presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
Members of Buhari’s cabinet are said to have waited for the president till about 11.00am when a protocol official whispered something in Osinbajo’s ear, according to Daily Trust.
Osinbajo then started the meeting with a call for the recitation of the national anthem and opening prayers.
Buhari was also absent from the FEC meeting of Wednesday, April 12, leading Osinbajo to preside over the gathering.
Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed however dismissed concerns that Buhari had fallen ill again saying that the president had other matters to attend to and as such instructed Osinbajo to preside over the meeting.
“Mr President is not ill again. Mr. President is in town; Mr. President is attending to other issues,” Mohammed said at the time.
“He looked at the agenda for the meeting and decided that the vice president should preside. It is not unusual for the vice president to preside over FEC meetings,” he added.
The president was reported to have cancelled the April 19 meeting but the Presidency clarified that the meeting didn’t hold because of the Easter holidays.
Buhari’s absence from the April 12 meeting was the first since his March 10 return to Nigeria from a 49-day medical vacation in London.
Buhari had said, on arrival in Nigeria, that he did not remember being so sick in all his life.
He also said that he would soon need follow-up treatment for the undisclosed ailment.
Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose says that Buhari has become a Friday only president in reference to the president’s publicized visits to the mosque for Juma’ah prayers.
