The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG), a body of Muslim professionals, has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of an Islamic cleric who allegedly called for the killing of the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, because she is a Christian.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, and released in Abuja, MMWG condemned the cleric’s remarks, labeling him as “one of the bad elements in Nigerian society and not a true scholar of Islam.”
The group urged security agencies to act swiftly based on a viral video circulating on social media showing the cleric making provocative statements.

MMWG emphasized that such behavior must not be tolerated, especially during these challenging times in Nigeria.
Highlighting Islamic teachings, MMWG clarified that Islam promotes peace and harmony with people of other faiths, including Christians and Jews, whom it refers to as “Ahlul-Kitab” or “People of the Book.”
The group stressed that nowhere in Islamic texts does it permit harming or killing Jews, Christians, or unbelievers.
MMWG called on the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) to address the issue and ensure that erring Islamic preachers are dealt with appropriately to maintain peace and sanity in Islamic propagation.
The group also advised President Tinubu and his wife not to be distracted by the cleric’s remarks, assuring them that the law would take its course.
The group concluded by emphasizing the need for Muslim leaders to use the appropriate channels to check the activities of individuals who tarnish the image of Islam.
