Ladi Adebutu, the PDP candidate for governor in Ogun State in the previous election, has disproven rumours that his father, Kensington Adebutu, donated millions of naira to former Governor Gbenga Daniel to help him in 2023.
After receiving millions of naira from the Adebutu patriarch to work for Ladi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has accused Daniel of betraying the party, as reported by Infostride News.
However, Adebutu said that neither his father nor any other family member had ever contributed money to the Ogun East Senator.
On Friday, Adebutu published a statement in which he “thanked the people of the State for voting massively for his candidature.”
According to the PDP candidate, Daniel’s wealth was widely known even before he entered politics.
He emphasised: “Let there be no confusion: the Adebutu family did not provide any financial support to the aforementioned former governor, who we consider to be independently wealthy.
Before entering politics, he was known to be among the wealthiest people of his day. This is no exaggeration. The only people with warped imaginations who could believe such a nasty tale are the ones who spread it.
For the good of Remo-Land, Adebutu recalled, Daniel chose the APC and its candidates above him in 2019, throwing his weight behind them when it was clear that Adekunle Akinlade of the APM would defeat the APC.
“Ditto my dad, Sir Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu CFR- Odole Oodua of the Source, who willingly gave hundreds of millions of naira in 2019 to both our political structures, because he regards both of us as his sons from the same Iperu Town,” he said.
In addition, the ex-lawmaker revealed that his father provided “huge donation” to the government of the State of Abiodun during the COVID-19 pandemic and to a number of other projects there.
