The President elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was in Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe States yesterday in continuation of his “thank you” tour of states across the country.
He reiterated his resolve to lead a transparent administration, saying he would not allow plundering of government treasury or bending of rules to favour his family, friends or cronies.
Speaking at a meeting of All Progressives Congress stakeholders in Yola, Mr. Buhari said the fact that his wife hails from Adamawa State would not translate to an undue advantage to the state from the federal government.
“I am your in law but when it comes to allocation of national resources, I will be just and fair to all. Whatever Adamawa gets, other states will get”, he said.
The president-elect also promised to be prudent in the management of the nation’s resources, vowing to deal with dishonest officials who might want to short-change the people.
“I will never short-change the people or allow anybody to short-change them”, he added.
He charged the electorate to vote for Senator Jibrilla Bindow as the next governor of the state as well as other APC candidates for the state House of Assembly to consolidate the support he needs for smooth running of government.
In Bauchi, Buhari thanked the people, whom he described as special to him, for not only supporting him but also honouring him by voting for the APC in the March 28 presidential and national assembly elections.
He said he was in the state to express appreciation for their support, condole with families who lost relations during the elections and to seek support for APC candidates in this Saturday’s elections.
“I also want you to support the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state and those running for legislative seats”, he said, adding that he would not betray the trust and confidence reposed in him by the masses of the country.
He assured that the in-coming APC administration would do everything possible not to disappoint Nigerians.
The governorship candidate of APC in Bauchi, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar, expressed delight for the support given to the party in the presidential election.
He, however, said the predicament the state was facing could only be tackled with the support of the federal government, hence the need for the people to for APC candidates.
In Gombe, Mr. Buhari warned security agencies to desist from being used by politicians to harass and intimidate innocent citizens.
He gave the warning during a condolence visit to the emir and people of Gombe over the death of some people, including INEC officials, during the attack on Dukku and Nafada during the March 28 elections.
“The issue of security agencies is one we will pay attention to when we come on board. They are being employed, trained and given weapons to defend and protect the citizenry and not to harass, intimidate or allow themselves to be used by anybody”, he said.
Buhari expressed appreciation to people of the state for voting the APC on March 28 and urged them to extend same goodwill to the APC gubernatorial and House of Assembly candidates on Saturday.
He said doing that would give him and others the power and courage to bring the desired change Nigerians have been yearning for.
Earlier, the Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar Shehu, had thanked the president-elect for the visit and wished him success in his tenure.
