Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi has announced his retirement from football at the age of 31. He recently had his say via a heartfelt social media message, and fans have been reacting.

Bringing the curtain down on a career that delivered some of LFC’s most memorable modern moments, Origi noted that he believes his journey in the game has reached its conclusion.

Stressing that his purpose as a footballer is fulfilled, the former Belgium international concluded by thanking those who supported him throughout his career.

His words, “My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it.

To my fans across the world who helped me shine: every iconic moment, every goal, every piece of history we made together will forever be ours.

To every club, and all the coaches and teammates who stood beside me, thank you.

You shaped me in ways that go far beyond the pitch. Representing Belgium, my nation, while carrying Kenya, my roots, was a joy.

And to my family and those closest to me… without you, I am not who I am today. I am forever grateful. The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling. More of the journey to come.”

Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Founded in 1892, the club joined the Football League the following year and has played its home games at Anfield since its formation.

Domestically, the club has won 19 league titles, eight FA Cups, a record nine League Cups and 16 FA Community Shields. In international competitions, the club has won six European Cups, three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups—all English records—and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Anfield was built in 1884 on land adjacent to Stanley Park. Left with an empty ground, Houlding founded Liverpool in 1892 and the club has played at Anfield ever since. The capacity of the stadium at the time was 20,000, although only 100 spectators attended Liverpool’s first match at Anfield.
