The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has deemed the judgements rendered by various courts in petitions arising from the 2023 general elections as justifiable.
Speaking in Yola on Saturday, NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, commended the judges for delivering justice in these decisions.
“Wherever there is justice, there is also commendation, as people connect to the justice of the case,” Maikyau stated.

He made these remarks during the Emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the NBA in Adamawa State’s capital, where he urged governments at all levels to ensure decisions align with the constitution.
As legal practitioners, Maikyau emphasized that NBA members provide guidance and protection to both the people and government, advising, “Government should not act solely based on what they perceive as good; they should verify if the law permits such actions.”
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who officially opened the NBA NEC meeting, called on the Bar to uphold public confidence in the judiciary.
Represented by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta, Fintiri urged the NBA to address misconduct within its ranks while recognizing members who demonstrate integrity, skill, courage, and patriotism.
He further urged the NBA to maintain the judiciary’s reputation as the last resort for the common man, emphasizing the importance of justice being both done and seen to be done.
Adamawa State Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, encouraged NBA meeting participants to make decisions that enhance the bar’s relevance.
She also commended the judiciary for entrusting many women with the responsibility of handling election petitions nationwide.
