National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has successfully jammed signals from Radio Biafra, a station dedicated to the defense of rights of the indigenous people of Biafra and ultimately the actualization of the Republic of Biafra.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Dr. Shade Yemi-Esan, who briefed Journalists after a meeting between officials of the Ministry of Information and President Muhammadu Buhari who heard them speak on the activities of the ministry.
“Right now the signals from radio Biafra have been jammed successfully by the NBC,” she said.
“The commission is also working with security agencies to get those that are behind that radio because it is an illegal radio. It is not licensed by anybody to be on the airwaves in Nigeria.”
Until its signal was jammed, Biafra Radio was transmitting messages aimed at instigating hate against Yorubas and Hausas and the Nigerian state from an unknown location in Rivers State on 88.0 FM.
Meanwhile President Buhari has frowned at the conditions of Journalists and other media practitioners whose salaries are being delayed or outrightly not paid by media owners.
He also directed that producers of Nollywood movies be made to have uninhibited access to what is due to them to ease their work, charging the Ministry to reduce the menace of piracy.
“The Federal Ministry of Information went to tell Mr President what we have been doing. The major activities in the ministry which are geared towards publicity of government programmes and how we get the feed back from Nigerians which influences policy decisions.
