The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the seizure of opioids worth N13.014 billion in raids across Lagos. These operations targeted drug cartels operating in Amuwo Odofin, Idumota, and the SAHCO shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos, according to a statement by Femi, the director of media and advocacy at NDLEA.
The first operation took place at House 8/10 Hon. Wahuha Avenue, Divine Estate, Ago Palace area of Amuwo Odofin on Sunday, October 29th. During this raid, 490,000 pills of tramadol and 81,519 bottles of codeine syrup (measuring 4,510,000mls) were recovered.
On Tuesday, October 31st, NDLEA operatives conducted a similar operation at a secret warehouse operated by a billionaire Idumota trader, Nwaoha Anayo, located at Onitire, Aguda area of Surulere. In this operation, they recovered N12.7 million worth of tramadol pills.

In addition to these busts, NDLEA arrested at least six members of a syndicate involved in facilitating the smuggling of illicit drugs through the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) warehouse at the Lagos airport. The painstaking operation that led to these arrests lasted for weeks, resulting in the seizure of N1.2 million pills of tramadol. The six suspects in NDLEA custody include Oladele Sanya-Olu, Lawal Itunu Temitope, Sanamo Alla Daniel, Udeh Felix Monday, Musa Mutalib, and Unege Evans Icibor. Three other suspects, Sarki Mubarak Salami, Abdullahi Aliyu (aka Aboki), and Monday Anwal, are currently on the run and wanted by NDLEA.
NDLEA also reported the interception of 3.2 kilograms of cocaine at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja. This cocaine was headed for Saudi Arabia. During the outward clearance of Air France flight AF 878 to Amsterdam, Netherlands, NDLEA operatives arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Nwokolo Anthony, who was body scanned and found to have ingested illicit drugs. The suspect, who had traveled from Lagos to board the flight, excreted a total of 86 pellets of heroin weighing 1.330 kilograms during his observation.
NDLEA commended the officers and men of the NDLEA Lagos, Osun, Edo, and FCT Commands for their dedicated efforts. General Buba Marwa, the head of the institution, encouraged them to remain focused as the agency continues to expand its operations against drug cartels in the country.
