The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the interception of significant quantities of opioid and cannabis in various operations across different states.
In a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, it was revealed that about 900,000 pills of opioid were seized in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State, leading to the arrest of two suspects on April 9.
Additionally, a 48-year-old suspect was apprehended at Essit Ebum area of Calabar with 39.4kg of cannabis sativa on the same day.

NDLEA operatives also intercepted a logistics truck on the Owerri-Onitsha road in Imo State, recovering 230 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 119kg, hidden under household items, from the suspect after a thorough search.
In another raid at Ijesa-Isu forest in Ekiti State, 252 kilograms of cannabis were seized.
The suspects were caught loading 40kg of the same substance into the engine compartment of a gas truck at Agho village, Owan-East in Edo State. Two motorcycles used in conveying the consignment were also recovered.
Furthermore, a suspect was arrested in Imeko area of Ogun State with 79kg of cannabis, while an 18-year-old was nabbed with 410kg of the same substance in Obatedo camp, Itaogbolu forest in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.
The NDLEA spokesperson highlighted that various commands of the agency across the country continued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign.
Examples include a WADA sensitization lecture for students and staff members of Gboko Polytechnic, Gboko, Benue State, and for officers and men of 15 Engineering Field Regiment Nigerian Army, Topo, Badagry, Lagos State.
