NDLEA Seeks Public Partnership To Combat Drug Trafficking

Ahmadu Giade, Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Tuesday appealed for public collaboration with the agency in combating drug smuggling and trafficking in the country.

Giade told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone that people should give useful information to facilitate their jobs in identifying the areas where such acts were being carried out.

He said that the agency had been championing the course to overcome current global challenges in illicit drug trafficking, production and abuse.

“Members of the public should support the agency by providing valuable information that will help it to locate areas where narcotics are produced or where hard drugs business takes place and tackle it.

“The fight against hard drugs and narcotics should not be for the NDLEA alone, everybody must cooperate with the agency in ensuring that hard drugs business is put to a halt in the country”, Giade said.

He added that drugs business was a global challenge where parents and social organisations should play a major role in sensitising children on the dangers of using and smuggling hard drugs.

He also said that some countries such as Germany had helped Nigeria in training sniffer dogs used in most of the international airports across the country to detect illicit trafficking.

The chairman appealed to youths to engage themselves with vocational jobs to earn a decent living rather than being used as courier by drug peddlers.

“With the NDLEA’s zero tolerance for drug trafficking, the trade will soon be a thing of he past”, the chairman said.
