Dr. Khaliru Alhassan has assumed duty as the new Minister of State for Health.
His appointment which was announced during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday saw Dr. Alhassan as the successor to the immediate past Minister of state for Health, Dr. Mohammed Ali Pate.
The new Minister was received by the Minister of Health, Prof.C.O.Onyebuchi Chukwu and his management team.
In his welcome address, Prof.Chukwu said he was delighted to receive the new Minister of State who he described as a seasoned professional having spent many years in the health sector.
He intimated the new Minister with the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Health and emphasized that the ministry being key in the economic development of the country, is also very critical in President Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda.
Prof. Chukwu took time to acquaint Dr. Alhassan with the number of Parastatals, establishments, training centres, and regulatory bodies under the Ministry.
While responding, Dr. Alhassan pledged his commitment to ensure that the Ministry is taken to greater heights during his tenure.
He added that as a team player, he will give all necessary support to help stop drift of Nigerians to seek medical services abroad.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Sani Bala on behalf of the entire staff of the Ministry pledged his unflinching loyalty to the new minister and assured him of the management staff support throughout his tenure.
Directors, Heads of Parastatals and agencies of the Ministry were on hand to welcome the new Minister.
