A Daura-based Non Governmental Organization, Compare and Contrast Youth Association has trained 195 women on eight different vocational skills.
Its Secretary, Alhaji Sabiu Mohammed disclosed this at the graduation ceremony of the second batch of the trainees in Daura on Saturday.
The Secretary, who, called for community participation in the activities of the organisation, said the training was aimed at empowering the women to enable them become self-reliant.
He said the association which was established in 2014, started with 30 trainees ,”adding we have 304 women undergoing training on various skills out of which 195 are graduating today.”
He said the participants received training on various skills including weaving, Knitting,tailoring, pomade making (Jelly) perfume,candle as well as in computer literacy.
He called on Katsina state government and well-to-do individuals to support the programmes of the association to reduce poverty especially among women who are the most vulnerable in the society.
A renowned philanthropist, Alhaji Musa Haro, commended the organisation for the initiative and called on similar organisations to emulate it.
Haro warned youths against engaging in drug abuse and other social vices stressing that such acts are inimical to their progress and future aspirations.
He donated N1 million to the graduands and 30 sewing machines to the organization.
