Shehu Sani, a former politician, has urged the Senate to reject President Bola Tinubu’s call for military action against the Republic of Niger.
Sani warned Tinubu on Friday via his X social media platform that he shouldn’t be duped by foreign influences.
The President reportedly wrote a letter to the Senate requesting permission to take military action and other penalties against the military junta in Niger, as reported by Infostride News.

Senators, especially those from states bordering Niger, should think carefully about the repercussions of their votes, according to Sani.
He urged the Nigerian Senate to reject plans to launch military operations against Niger Republic. This country must not be dragged into the Sahel conflict and become mired in it.
President Tinubu must guard against being duped by external forces. Wars don’t end in days, weeks, or months; look at Saudi Arabia in Yemen, the United States in Afghanistan, and now Russia in Ukraine.
Senators, especially those who represent states on Niger’s border, should think carefully about the repercussions of their votes. Using Niger’s power grid as a weapon is likewise unacceptable.
If President Tinubu is truly concerned about the lives of those who may be sacrificed, he should keep looking at diplomatic options. I think so too.
