As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence anniversary, the Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has called for a period of deep reflection and soul-searching.
The party noted that, despite enduring numerous challenges, including political instability, economic stagnation, socio-religious tension, and insecurity, the country has remained united by divine mercy.
In a statement signed by Rev. Olusegun Peters, the National Chairman of the ACC, the party acknowledged the current difficulties faced by the nation but expressed hope for a brighter future.
It emphasised that today’s hardships would eventually become a testimony of God’s faithfulness in the days ahead.
Rev. Peters urged Nigerians to stay prayerful, tolerant, and patriotic, stressing that this is a time for renewal of faith in the nation’s potential.
“Nigeria’s 64th Independence is yet another opportunity for serious soul-searching and to renew our faith in the fatherland,” the statement said.
“The challenges are enormous, but so are the opportunities if we collectively resolve to build a prosperous democratic nation rooted in conservative ideology.”
Acknowledging the widespread hardship and hunger, compounded by insecurity, the ACC urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to revive the economy and restore national security.
“The Federal Government must take governance seriously and act swiftly to address the economic downturn and security challenges.
Nigerians are tired of hearing excuses from elected officials about why they cannot deliver the dividends of democracy,” the statement continued.
Rev. Peters also stressed the importance of holding governments at all levels accountable, in line with the standards of advanced democracies.
He emphasised that a country as resource-rich as Nigeria should not be mired in poverty due to the actions of self-serving politicians.
“It is time for well-meaning Nigerians to stand up and be counted in the quest for a new, better, and greater Nigeria.
A nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources should not be impoverished by the actions of a few self-seeking politicians and their cronies,” Rev. Peters added.
The ACC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance and ensuring the establishment of genuine democracy based on conservative values.
According to the party, this approach is key to solving Nigeria’s persistent economic, political, and security challenges.
“We will continue to champion good governance and the enthronement of genuine democracy with conservative ideology. This is the panacea for the nation’s perennial challenges,” the ACC concluded.
