The member representing Nguru, Machina, Karsuwa and Yusufari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sidi Karasuwa, has disclosed that northeast legislators in the National Assembly had concluded plans to sponsor a bill for the reconstruction of the region.
Mr. Karasuwa made this known on Saturday in Damaturu in an interview.
He said the bill would seek the reconstruction, resettlement and development of the northeast region that has been devastated by Boko Haram insurgency.
“The northeast legislators’ caucus has tabled a motion in the House of Representatives for reconstruction and development of the northeast, the senators will also toe the same line”, he said.
He described the quantum of destruction by Boko Haram in the region as “unprecedented, saying the economy, education, health, roads and other infrastructures had been destroyed by the insurgency.
The lawmaker said the bill would make provision for a development commission that would address the immediate and long term solutions to the destruction on infrastructure.
The legislator commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his political will and commitment of the security operatives to end Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
“We in the northeast can testify to the huge improvement recorded in the fight against insurgency under this administration”, he said.
Mr. Karasuwa expressed optimism that the three months deadline issued by the president to the security agencies to flush out Boko Haram was possible. (NAN)
