The Management of the Nigerian National Merit Award (NNMA) has issued a rejoinder to the press coverage of the inauguration of the Board held on the 28th March, 2014 in which it alleged misrepresentation of the Chairman’s address at the occasion by some sections of the media.
In the rejoinder signed by Mrs. Alheri Davo, the Head of Press and Public Relations of NNMA, the Management sought to straighten the records by insisting that the Chairman of the Governing Board of NNMA, Professor Francis Idachaba did not in his address given at the occasion of the inauguration of the Board say that “There had been undue pressure on him to bring in more personnel into the assessor team of the NNMA, even when their disciplines and integrity were questionable” as allegedly reported.
The rejoinder was particular in pointing out that it was Punch Newspaper of 30th March, 2014 which reported the story in the “offensive” manner.
In seeking to set the records straight therefore, the Management of NNMA has written as follows:
“We are compelled to issue this rejoinder to the press coverage by certain sections of the media of the response of the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award (NNMA), Professor F. S. Idachaba, NNOM, OFR, to the address of His Excellency, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, GCON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, at the inauguration of the NNMA Board on 28 March, 2014.”
The rejoinder further said that NNMA regarded the report as “distortions and misrepresentations” and that the rejoinder wouldn’t have been necessary if the distortions and misrepresentations were not very “obvious”, given the fact that the Chairman’s full address which was distributed at the occasion did not say otherwise.
