
Nigerian President’s wife, Hajia Ashia Buhari has declared her intention to champion the course of women and children by improving maternal healthcare delivery in the country.
She disclosed this recently at the stakeholders’ meeting of partners within the health sector at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, lamenting the number of women and children, who are dying as a result of inadequate healthcare delivery in the country.
Aisha Buhari said that the development requires urgent attention to tackle the menace among the group. Adding, the situation at hand has motivated her to pursue the issue concerning the area of reproductive, maternal and child health.
She further noted that her proposal on the issue would be discussed at the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York, inferring that her office is ready to cooperate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders and development partners to improve the health of women and children in line with government resolutions.
While delivering his remarks at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health, Linus Awute (Dr) said that the ministry would support the initiative as well as promote it among parastatals and government agencies towards achieving its target.
During the event, the representatives of the United Nations and local partners commended the initiative, describing it as timely and pledged their involvement in the stride.
