ABUJA (National Assembly Report) – The Nigerian Senate has on Tuesday May 6, 2014 considered the request from President Ebele Jonathan for the confirmation of the nomination of some Presidential nominees.
A release from the Public Relations Department of the National Assembly Commission on the issue indicates that the purpose of the exercise according to the motion which was moved by the Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba is to approve the reference of the report to relevant committees of the Senate.
The report identified the nominees to include: Yunusa Musa Salihu (Dr) as a member of the Federal Character Commission; Chimaobi Oziche Odunze (Dr) as a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Yakubu Muri Tumtur (Barrister) and Emmanuel Teri Vahyale as members of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission. Adding, the nomination of Yunusa Musa Salihu (Dr) was referred to the Committee on Federal Character Commission with a mandate to report back to plenary in one week, whilst the other nominations were referred to the Committees on Establishment and Public Service as well as that of the National Planning Commission.

“The Senate also considered the report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition in respect of the unlawful dismissal of Yahaya Tafida Yakubu (Lt Rtd) from the Nigerian Navy. It further resolved that Yahaya Tafida Yakubu be reinstated back to service on the same rank and seniority with his contemporaries still serving in the Armed Forces and be voluntarily retired with full benefits as a Navy Captain,” the report said.
According to the statement, the Senate earlier resolved to resume consideration of the Joint Committee on FCT and Finance’s submission on the FCT Internal Revenue Board Bill 2014; but deferred consideration of the bill to another legislative day. It also deferred consideration of the report of the Committee on Capital Market which was submitted on the Chartered Institute of Security and Investment to another legislative day.
“The Senate subsequently adjourned its deliberations till Tuesday, May 13, 2014 to enable its members to attend the World Economic Forum,” it added.
