The Nigerian Senate has refuted claims circulating on certain media platforms alleging that the 2024 appropriation budget was padded by over N4 trillion.
In a statement issued to Senate Correspondents, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, expressed skepticism about the intentions of those spreading such misinformation.
He emphasized the transparent process through which the budget had been scrutinized and approved before receiving President Bola Tinubu’s assent.

Senator Adaramodu clarified that the budget, which outlines the expected revenue and expenditure, had been publicly available.
He underscored that the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, was unaware of any alterations made to the budget document.
In his statement, Senator Adaramodu stated, “There is no budget padding as far as the Senate and the National Assembly are concerned.
The National budget is a public document that explicitly states the expected revenue and expenditure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He further assured the public, saying, “The general public should rest assured that there is no budget padding anywhere, and we are confident that the 2024 appropriation law shall be strictly executed under strict legislative oversight.”
The Senate’s denial comes amidst heightened scrutiny and concerns over the budget process and financial accountability within the government.
