Infostride News: Nigeria’s Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), UK, have recently reaffirmed their robust partnership through the formal signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This agreement, solidified in the United Kingdom, serves to strengthen the ongoing collaboration between these two eminent professional bodies, emphasizing various facets such as certification, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), membership drive, integrity, and the reciprocal benefits derived from multiple learning opportunities and networking.
According to Infostride News, the President of CIS, Oluwole Adeosun, provided insights into the historical background that led to the Institute’s chartered status and highlighted the continuous efforts to expand its operational scope in alignment with the mandate conferred by the Act of Parliament. Adeosun remarked, “We are thrilled today as it marks another significant milestone in the extensive history of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS).

We have officially renewed collaboration with our strategic partner, the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) UK. The partnership has continued to benefit both professional bodies. It aims at advancing capacity building, growing membership, and creating seamless learning opportunities for the members of the two major professional institutions.”
In a corresponding statement, the Chief Executive Officer of CISI, Tracy Vegro, expressed delight at the sustained collaboration between the two professional bodies. Vegro acknowledged Nigeria as one of the significant markets for attracting young individuals to build careers in investment-related fields. She stated, “We are delighted to be building our already productive partnership further still. Our role as professional bodies is to ensure that our members uphold professional standards. This is one way the market can operate efficiently. We are glad to update our collaboration agreement, aiming to share the benefits of our multiple global learning and networks. The appetite for learning and the upgrade of qualifications from the young people in Nigeria is second to none.”
A notable historical context is that the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) and the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) deepened the scope of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2019. This expansion aimed at enhancing global ethical and professional standards within the field of stockbroking. The MOU allows stockbrokers to become members of CISI, contingent on compliance with specific requirements, including participation in the global body’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and membership criteria.
In addition to meeting CIS’s membership and CPD requirements, CIS Nigeria members will gain access to seven professional qualifications offered by CISI. These qualifications, including Securities (Capital Markets Programme), Derivatives (Capital Markets Programme), Certificate in Corporate Finance, Risk in Financial Services, Global Financial Compliance, Combating Financial Crime, and Managing Cyber Security, will be examined by Computer Based Testing (CBT) in Lagos.
This renewed commitment between CIS and CISI underscores their dedication to fostering professional growth, maintaining ethical standards, and providing a platform for continuous learning and development within the dynamic landscape of stockbroking and investment-related fields. The collaboration also serves to position Nigeria as a key market for cultivating the next generation of professionals in the realm of finance and investment.
