Abuja (Office of the First Lady Report) – The wife of Nigerian President, Patience Jonathan has said that the former Minister of Information and erstwhile Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dora Nkem Akunyili (Professor) was a titan who left an indelible mark having served the nation with passion and conviction.
The First Lady, who received the news about the death of the late Dora Akunyili on Saturday June 7, 2014 said that ‘words cannot adequately express the shock and deep sadness’ she felt on receiving the news. She further observed that the late Akunyili demonstrated that given the opportunity, women can make a difference. Adding, this was evident from her glowing career as an internationally renowned pharmacist, respected academic and distinguished administrator.
She noted that late Dora Akunyili was a bright and shining star. “While we mourn her loss, we offer thanksgiving to God for her sojourn on this mortal earth and for her service to the nation and humanity.” The First Lady prayed that the Almighty in his infinite mercy, would grant her gentle soul peaceful repose and that God should console her immediate and extended family members.
