The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has taken decisive action to dissolve its executive committees in Taraba, Benue, Oyo, Bauchi, and Gombe states.
This decision, announced in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ladipo Johnson, followed an emergency meeting held by the NWC in Abuja on Thursday.
The dissolution affects the entire executive structure of the party, from the state level down to the ward level in the affected states.
According to Mr Johnson, the dissolution is part of a broader strategy to revitalise and reposition the NNPP in these key states.
The move is aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure and enhancing its effectiveness ahead of upcoming political challenges.
Johnson noted that the decision was made in line with articles 14.2.1 (iv, v) and 15.2.1 (xvi) of the party’s constitution, as amended on 6th April 2024.
The statement outlined that the dissolved executive committees would be replaced with caretaker committees.
These temporary bodies will be tasked with managing the party’s affairs until new executive committees can be constituted.
Johnson explained that the appointment of the caretaker committees would be in strict adherence to the party’s constitution, with details of their composition expected to be announced within a few days.
“The dissolved executive committees shall, in accordance with the party’s constitution, be replaced by caretaker committees, which will be announced in a few days, for the stipulated period of time,” Johnson said.
He also expressed appreciation for the service of the outgoing executives, acknowledging their contributions to the party’s development.
He encouraged them to remain committed to the NNPP and to be prepared to serve in other capacities in the future.
The NWC’s decision to dissolve the executives is seen as a proactive step towards addressing internal challenges and repositioning the party for future electoral success.
By implementing these changes, the NNPP aims to strengthen its organisational foundation, ensuring that it is better equipped to meet the demands of Nigeria’s dynamic political landscape. This restructuring is also expected to pave the way for more effective leadership and improved party cohesion in the affected states.
Furthermore, Johnson highlighted that, following a comprehensive review of all other state executive committees nationwide, the NWC was generally satisfied with their preparedness and capacity to conduct local government elections.
He pointed out that, apart from the states where the executive committees were dissolved, other state branches of the NNPP have demonstrated both legal and moral readiness to oversee upcoming elections.
This assessment reinforces the NWC’s commitment to ensuring that the party remains competitive and well-organised across Nigeria.
In particular, the NNPP’s Kano State executive was singled out for commendation.
Johnson emphasised that the Kano State leadership is exceptionally well-positioned to manage the upcoming local council elections, citing their high standard of leadership and operational effectiveness.
He noted that the executive’s performance is in full compliance with legal standards and the party’s guiding principles, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
The restructuring of the NNPP’s state executives comes at a crucial time for the party, as it seeks to expand its influence and consolidate its position in Nigeria’s political arena.
By addressing internal issues and enhancing its organisational capabilities, the NNPP aims to build a more cohesive and dynamic party that can effectively champion the interests of its supporters.
The appointment of caretaker committees is expected to bring fresh perspectives and renewed vigour to the party’s operations in the affected states.
As the NNPP moves forward with its reorganisation efforts, it will be critical for the newly appointed caretaker committees to build on the foundation laid by their predecessors while addressing any gaps in leadership and strategy.
The party’s leadership has made it clear that these changes are intended to strengthen the NNPP’s presence and effectiveness at all levels, from local wards to the national stage.
By focusing on revitalisation and strategic planning, the NNPP hopes to position itself as a formidable force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
