Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has refuted claims of factionalism within the party, stating that he remains the sole founder and father of the NNPP since its inception in 2002.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lagos, Aniebonam clarified, “I do not know that there is a faction in the NNPP,” urging the media to cease referring to him as a leader of a faction within the party.
He emphasized that any perceived faction was represented by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and his followers, who were considered a faction before Kwankwaso’s expulsion from the NNPP.

Aniebonam expressed regret over recent developments within the party, noting his initial intentions to support Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya movement in contesting elective positions in the 2023 general elections.
He stressed his commitment to the NNPP, which he founded, nurtured, financed, and supervised for 22 years before Kwankwaso’s entry, stating, “It shall never be my intention to lead a faction in a party that I founded.”
Aniebonam urged Nigerians to unite with President Bola Tinubu to achieve the nation’s new hope.
