The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced its intention to appeal the recent judgement by the Court of Appeal, which overturned the victory of Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.
Following the nullification of the governor’s election on Friday, citing his alleged non-membership in the NNPP during the March 18 poll, Alhaji Abba Ali, the acting national chairman of NNPP, expressed discontent during a news conference in Abuja.
Ali labeled the court’s ruling on Yusuf’s membership status as “mischief” and decried it as a miscarriage of justice, asserting that Governor Yusuf had received a popular mandate from the people of Kano State.

Addressing the media, Ali stated, “Believing in the credibility of the judiciary and its ability to correct any error of judgement by the lower court, our party approached the Court of Appeal and prayed the appellate court to set aside the unjust ruling of the lower court.”
Expressing shock and consternation, Ali criticized the Court of Appeal’s decision, describing it as “convoluted” and grounded on the mistaken belief that Yusuf was not an NNPP member.
He questioned the practicality of Yusuf being successfully nominated on the INEC portal without his name being submitted along with the NNPP membership card, raising doubts about the court’s verdict. The NNPP has already briefed its legal team to challenge the ruling through the appellate process.
