The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has said it will deploy all lawful means to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with existing court orders relating to the party’s leadership dispute.
The party made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Secretary General, Ogini Olaposi, following a closed-door meeting between selected NNPP executives, their legal counsel, Segun Fiti, and the INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, in Abuja.

Olaposi described the meeting as inconclusive and unproductive, alleging that INEC had failed to implement court judgments concerning the party’s leadership crisis.
According to him, the NNPP had pursued legal remedies through various courts, which allegedly recognised Boniface Aniebonam as Founder and Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, and Agbo Major as Chairman of the National Working Committee (NWC).
He stated that the party presented several court rulings during the meeting, including judgments from the Abia State High Court, the Federal Capital Territory High Court, and the Owerri Division of the Court of Appeal, all of which he claimed directed INEC to comply with the decisions.
Olaposi further alleged that despite a mandamus order directing the electoral commission to update its records within 72 hours and file an affidavit of compliance, INEC had yet to act.
He also claimed that the Court of Appeal in Owerri issued additional compliance directives which remain unimplemented.
According to the NNPP scribe, the INEC Chairman did not provide clear reasons for the commission’s alleged failure to comply, but only stated that the party would “hear from the commission.”
Olaposi said the development raises uncertainty over when the commission intends to act, especially as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
He added that the party may seek further legal remedies, including possible adjustments to the electoral timetable, to safeguard its participation in the elections.
The NNPP also called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, the judiciary, and security agencies to take note of the situation, insisting that no institution should operate above the law.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice through lawful and constitutional means.
