In a bid to alleviate transportation challenges during the festive season, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the auction of seized petrol. The decision comes as part of efforts to stabilize fuel supply and reduce the burden of high transportation costs, which tend to spike during the yuletide period.
A spokesperson for the NCS explained that the auctioned fuel, which had been confiscated due to various contraventions, would be made available to licensed depots and distributors across the country. This move is expected to improve fuel distribution and ensure more consistent supply, particularly in areas that face shortages or delayed deliveries.
Customs officials highlighted that the auction would be conducted transparently, with all sales carried out in accordance with regulatory standards. “We are committed to ensuring that the fuel reaches the appropriate stakeholders to support transport services during this critical period,” the spokesperson stated.

With the festive season seeing an uptick in movement across the country, particularly for inter-state travel and goods transportation, the decision to auction the seized fuel is seen as a timely intervention. Experts believe that ensuring a steady fuel supply will help keep transportation costs manageable, thereby contributing to a smoother holiday season for both travelers and businesses.
This effort by the NCS aligns with government strategies to ease logistics challenges and mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices on Nigerians during the end-of-year festivities.
