ABUJA (National Emergency Management Agency Report)
Following the recent insurgent attack in Damboa, Borno State that resulted in a large influx of internally displaced persons to Gombe State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has evacuated and registered about 500 persons who were stranded in motor parks and some major highways to various camps in the State.
Remarking over the issue, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Danlami Arab Rukujei thanked the agency for the quick response and noted that the State Government has gradually become overwhelmed with a large influx of people especially from neighbouring States of Yobe and Borno. He further stated that the State has from January 2014 registered about 7,770 persons who mostly live with their relatives in the host communities.
He intensified that the items provided at the camps include: food stuffs, blankets, mattresses, nylon mats, buckets, towels and sanitary pads. Others were: rice, maize, sugar, millet, beans, powdered milk and vegetable oil etc.
