Abuja (Federal Ministry of Power News) – The Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil has tasked the visiting National Orientation Agency Director-General, Mike Omeri to put at the disposal of the Ministry, his co-ordinating prowess, expertise and purposeful leadership, in order to help address the issue of vandalisation of the power infrastructure in the country.
In his talk on Wednesday July 2, 2014 in his office in Abuja, while receiving the National Orientation Agency (NOA) delegation, Mohammed Wakil said that there is no other agency that is better endowed to tackle the monster of vandalism than NOA. Adding, NOA would assist in sensitizing Nigerian citizens about the benefit of these infrastructures built by Government in their communities, identifying that it is their responsibility to do so.
The Minister of State noted that the twin issues of lack of gas and vandalism have impacted negatively on the quest of Government to realize its dream for in-interrupted power supply to Nigerians in the shortest possible time.
According to him, the Ministry which has been working tirelessly with the Civil Defence Corps will now to bring NOA into the tripartite arrangement; assuring Nigerians that they are going to fight until they become victorious. “We must deliver so that the dream in the President’s Transformation Agenda for power becomes achievable,” he emphasized.
In order to underscore the seriousness of vandalism, the Minister indicated that in time past he had referred to it as ‘infrastructural terrorism.’ “We have already done a pilot model in a community in Kogi State where we launched the ‘Operation Safe Power Infrastructure’ with very successful efforts, ” Wakil explained
Earlier, the Director-General of NOA, Mike Omeri informed the Minister that his visit was to enable the utilisation of the partnership venture towards helping to fight the vandalisation of power infrastructure.
