Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has stated that the North-West and South-West regions remain the biggest beneficiaries of political appointments and federal projects under both the Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu administrations.
Sani made the remarks in a post on his official X handle on Friday while reacting to claims that President Tinubu’s government was favouring the South at the expense of the North.
According to the former lawmaker, those suggesting regional bias under the current administration are misrepresenting the facts.

“Under the immediate past and present administration, the North-West and the South-West regions are the highest beneficiaries of political appointments and projects,” Sani wrote.
“Those who are saying the ‘North’ is disfavoured against the ‘South’ are deliberately distorting this reality.
“The match is not yet half time, wait for more goals or penalties,” he added.
Sani’s comments come amid ongoing debates around regional equity in federal appointments, following the recent wave of key postings by the Tinubu administration.
The development also follows a statement by Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Political Adviser to President Tinubu, who argued that the North has consistently supported southern presidential candidates, citing the 1993 presidential election in which northern voters backed MKO Abiola over Alhaji Bashir Tofa, a fellow northerner.
Both statements appear to be part of a broader effort to address perceptions of regional imbalance and rising political discontent in some parts of the country.
As the Tinubu administration continues to fill critical positions and implement its “Renewed Hope” agenda, calls for inclusiveness and fairness remain a key part of Nigeria’s political discourse.
