The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reiterated the Corps’ growing role in national security, with a particular focus on aviation security as a critical component of Nigeria’s overall safety architecture.
In a statement released by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Babawale Afolabi, the Corps described aviation security as one of the most sensitive and strategic areas in the country’s security landscape.
Professor Audi made this known during his keynote address at the Aviation Security Stakeholders’ Engagement, held at the Dr. John Ade Abolurin Auditorium, NSCDC National Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja.

The Commandant General emphasised the vital connection between aviation security and national stability, noting that threats to aviation infrastructure pose significant risks to the country’s peace and economic development.
“Security is everybody’s business, and aviation security is national security,” Audi declared. “We must build stronger alliances, standardise our operations, and proactively engage in intelligence-led strategies.”
He stressed that national security is a shared responsibility requiring effective synergy among all relevant stakeholders. According to him, the NSCDC, through its statutory mandate, contributes by safeguarding aviation infrastructure, gathering intelligence, conducting surveillance, and responding swiftly to emergencies.
Professor Audi called on all stakeholders—regulatory agencies, security bodies, and aviation operators—to deepen collaboration and strengthen information-sharing frameworks in response to evolving threats within the aviation sector.
The engagement served as a crucial platform for dialogue, strategy alignment, and capacity enhancement among aviation security stakeholders. It also reinforced the commitment to a unified national approach towards protecting Nigeria’s critical aviation assets and ensuring the safety of passengers and infrastructure across the country.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge from participants to uphold inter-agency cooperation and continuously adapt to the dynamic security challenges facing Nigeria’s air transport system.
