The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has expressed concern over the growing wave of insecurity in the state, urging authorities to take swift action to address the situation.
The union made its position known during its monthly congress held at the NUJ secretariat in Alagbaka, Akure, where members described the recurring security breaches, particularly kidnappings, as alarming and in need of urgent attention.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the congress and signed by Damilola Isaiah, Adebiyi Jimisayo and Joy Pius, the union called on relevant security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts to curb the menace.

The NUJ noted that residents of the state have been living in constant fear due to the rising incidents of abductions.
The council specifically lamented the increasing cases of kidnappings in Akure North Local Government Area and along the Uso-Owo axis, stressing that perpetrators must be apprehended and prosecuted.
“The congress expressed concern over the worrisome security situations in some parts of the state, particularly the increasing cases of commercialised kidnappings,” the communiqué stated.
