The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has called on Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies to increase the deployment of operatives to the Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun areas to combat the rise in kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The union’s appeal was made in a communique issued at the conclusion of its monthly congress held on Wednesday. The communique, signed by NUJ Secretary Comrade Olusola Oladapo, was made available to the media on Thursday.
Ogbomoso encompasses five local government areas, while Oke Ogun has ten.

In the communique, the Oyo NUJ Council stressed the urgent need for enhanced security measures in these regions to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further kidnappings.
“The Council urgently appeals to the Oyo State government and security agencies to reinforce security in Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun areas to prevent kidnappings and ensure safety,” the communique stated.
Additionally, the NUJ urged Governor Makinde to address the issue of overpopulation in public secondary schools across the state, highlighting the need for a more conducive learning environment.
The council also praised the recent initiative to employ 7,000 additional teachers in primary schools.
“Appeal to the Governor to address overpopulation and insufficient teachers in some secondary schools by making the learning environment more conducive, while lauding the recent plan to employ 7,000 additional teachers in primary schools,” the communique added.
