The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed Dogara, has reiterated the scheme’s zero-tolerance policy for protests and indiscipline among corps members.
Dogara issued the warning during a working visit to the temporary orientation camp in Kaduna, emphasizing that the scheme’s bylaws clearly outline the consequences of such behavior, which corps members must strictly adhere to.
“In NYSC, just like in the Army and the Police, we don’t allow protests because we are disciplined and law-abiding. So whenever anybody wants to deceive you, go back and read your bylaws,” Dogara stated.

He revealed that in the last three months, disciplinary actions have been taken against several corps members who attempted to protest, stressing that such acts would not be tolerated.
“We have had a few corps members who were indisciplined and attempted to protest. We are keeping them behind due to their act of indiscipline,” he added.
Concern Over Night Journeys
The DG also expressed concerns over the safety of corps members during night journeys, highlighting the risks of accidents and kidnappings associated with such travel.
“My concern has been these incessant night journeys that have claimed so many lives. Sometimes they are involved in accidents, and other times, kidnappings, and we never recover them,” Dogara said.
He urged corps members to avoid night journeys and prioritize their safety, reiterating that the security and welfare of corps members remain his top agenda.
Corps Members’ Allowance Increased
In a significant development, Dogara announced that the Federal Government has approved an increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.
He assured corps members that the increment will take effect soon, pending the completion of necessary processes, including cash backing.
“This time, the government has agreed to double the amount from N33,000 to N77,000. We are only waiting for the cash backing because other processes have been communicated to us,” he confirmed.
Dogara further assured corps members of the NYSC’s commitment to their welfare and urged them to remain disciplined and dedicated throughout their service year.
