(Office of the Head of Service Reports) – The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu 1 has urged civil servants in Nigeria to serve the nation truthfully and shun the temptation to be involved in political activities. He said this when the Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Yemi Adelakun visited the palace as part of his scheduled tour of Lagos State to interact with Federal Civil Servants and major stakeholders in the State.
“As civil servants, you are expected to proffer good advice and be truthful with your political leaders, shun corrupt acts and resist the temptation to commercialize your offices,” he noted.
The Permanent Secretary, Yemi Adelakun in his remarks informed the Oba and the palace chiefs that as the Permanent Secretary representing Lagos State in the Federal Civil Service, his visit was accord with the directive of the Head of the Civil Service of The Federation that Federal Permanent Secretaries should visit their respective states of origin to interact with the federal civil servants and major stakeholders in there.
The interactive exercise, he indicated was to evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery by the federal civil servants in Lagos State and to determine how it can be improved upon and enhanced, especially in the implementation of projects and programmes under the transformation agenda of the Nigerian Government.
He stated that the exercise also aimed at conducting needs assessment and identifying the challenges of federal civil servants in terms of welfare, performance, operational environment, infrastructure, tools, systems of operation as well as the cordiality of their relationships with host communities.
He added that Government intends to open new channels of communication among federal civil servants, their host authorities and the Nigerian public whom they serve. He emphasized that the exercise will afford the government the opportunity of creating awareness on the ongoing reforms in the Federal Civil Service and called on all Federal Civil Servants to uphold the core values and ethics of the civil service such as stewardship, trustworthiness, engagement, professionalism, industry, transparency and accountability.
