Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has expressed confidence in the ability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.
Obasa said Hamzat possesses the competence, character, experience and determination required to lead Lagos State and sustain its development.

The Speaker spoke on Friday while addressing journalists at the formal presentation of Hamzat’s manifesto at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Arts Theatre, in Iganmu, Lagos.
He said Hamzat’s educational background, combined with his experience in both the private and public sectors, had prepared him for the responsibilities of the governorship.
According to Obasa, the APC candidate has the qualities needed to deliver on his campaign promises and advance the state’s socio-economic development.
“He has the competence, character, and most importantly, the determination to rewrite the Lagos State socio-economic narrative,” Obasa said.
Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor, contested for the governorship ticket in 2019 but eventually agreed to run alongside Sanwo-Olu, who went on to win the election and secure a second term in office.
His emergence as the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election has positioned him as the party’s preferred successor to Sanwo-Olu.
The manifesto presentation is part of the APC’s preparations for the forthcoming election, as the party seeks to retain control of Lagos State.
Obasa’s endorsement adds to the support Hamzat has received from key party leaders as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
