Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that he expects Bells University to produce a Nobel Laureate in 20 years of its existence.
The University, located in Otta, Ogun state, was established by him in 2004.
According to Vanguard, Obasanjo made this known while addressing the management team of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Efunrun, Delta State who paid him a courtesy call at his Abeokuta residence.
He added that he instructed the management of the University to achieve the feat of producing a Nobel Laureate over time.
Obasanjo also disclosed that part of the reason he established the school was to provide the much needed expertise for the Nigerian petroleum industry.
He assured the nation that the ongoing effort being put in by the establishment will develop the petroleum industry.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Akii Ibhadode, who led the team in his opening remarks commended Obasanjo for the initiative of establishing the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, stressed the need for adequate funding of the institution.
