The Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Reng Ochekpe has charged the staff of her Ministry on commitment to duty towards moving the water sector forward.
The Minister made the call recently during her meeting with the management and staff of the Ministry in Abuja, tagged: “Town Hall Meeting.” She urged them to take their assignments seriously as those who do not work hard do not reap the benefit in the workplace. She also recalled that some years ago the Ministry of Water Resources was merged with the Agriculture but considering the importance of water, the present administration did decide to re-create the Ministry of Water Resources. “If for nothing, the staff ought to work hard as an appreciation to the President for giving the water sector a sense of identity,” she said.
“The management would ensure a conducive environment to enhance performance of staff. Within the limit of the resources available, whatever is your entitlement would be given to you and we expect that you should appreciate the efforts of the management in ensuring that you are comfortable.”
Speaking on training, the Minister expressed belief that the training would enable officers to acquire knowledge and improve their capacity not a motivation by monetary only. She further advised those who intend to grow in life and are planning high to ensure they expose themselves to some training and be willing to make use of any available opportunities for training.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Baba Umar Faruk in his remarks averred that the management has approved training activities for all levels of staff, adding that the newly employed professional engineers would be trained and attached to varied water and irrigation projects. He also disclosed that the Ministry would partner with the Federal Ministry of Finance to build a water village in order to ease the accommodation challenges of the staff. He urged the staff to cooperate with the management to enable the ministry achieve its mandate.
Earlier in his speech, the Director of Human Resources, Muhammad Badamasuiy said that the essence of the meeting was to create an avenue for the minister and staff of the Ministry to interact and share ideas on how to move the Ministry forward.
